Autologous Fat Grafting

What is Autologous Fat Grafting?

Autologous fat grafting is a procedure in which the patient’s own fat tissue is used to restore or enhance the volume of the soft tissues of the face. It helps improve facial contours, smooth wrinkles, and create a more youthful appearance.

Facial contours depend not only on the structure of the bones and muscles but also on the elasticity of the skin and the fat pads beneath it. As we age, facial fat volume decreases, which can deepen wrinkles and diminish facial definition.

Who is it suitable for?

Autologous fat grafting may be appropriate for patients who wish to:

  • Restore lost facial volume,

  • Fill deep wrinkles and folds,

  • Correct scars,

  • Refine facial contours and highlight facial structures,

  • Achieve a more natural and longer-lasting result than with dermal fillers.

How the procedure is performed

  • Fat is harvested from the patient’s own body, usually from the lower abdomen or thighs.

  • The fat cells are purified and then carefully injected into the targeted facial areas.

  • Because the patient’s own tissue is used, there is no risk of rejection.

  • Unlike dermal fillers, fat grafting usually does not require repeated treatments, as a significant portion of the transferred fat cells survive and naturally integrate with the surrounding tissue.

Recovery and results

  • Moderate swelling and bruising may occur after the procedure but typically resolve within a few weeks.

  • Since the fat is the patient’s own tissue, the result looks natural and lasts a long time.

  • The final outcome is a more youthful, fuller facial contour.
